This model was built to better understand the dynamics of a turning skateboard truck. You can tilt
the skateboard, and determine different outputs for a given truck hanger angle, and rake (axle
offset to hanger pivot axis).
- The model does not consider wheel bite, the range of motion of each truck or other
interferences.
- This is a math model to show functional concepts.
- Axle direction is zero when board is pointing straight ahead.
- Note, we're actually moving the math model to obtain values in the chart below; occasionally the
model gets out of sync. Graph data shows as 180° - value. (Gimbal lock...) If that happens, just
reload/reset the page and try again.
- Model uses 75mm wheels, board height of 130mm (assuming 12.5mm extra riser to prevent wheel
bite)
- The Russian tilt calculation comes from "Dynamics and Stability of the Simplest Skateboard Model"
by Andrey V. Kremnev and Alexander S. Kuleshov.
